Taking to social media platform X, Yadav expressed his condolences over the demise of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ramcharan Gautam. He confirmed that to maintain law and order, Section 163 has been imposed in the area. Senior police officials, including DIG Rewa and SP Mauganj, have been deployed to the scene to manage the situation.
The Chief Minister also stated that the injured police personnel had been shifted to Rewa Hospital for treatment. “An ASI of our police, Ramcharan Gautam, died in retaliatory action during an unfortunate attack on the police team, including the Tehsildar and SHO, who had reached Gadara village in Mauganj to intervene in a dispute between two groups. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. I have directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to reach the spot and oversee the situation. Strict action will be taken against all the accused,” CM Yadav posted on X.
The violence erupted when a police team visited Gadara village in Ramnagari Panchayat of Mauganj district to mediate a conflict between two groups and rescue a man held hostage, who was later killed. However, the police team was suddenly attacked by villagers with sticks and stones, leading to multiple injuries among officers.
According to officials, several injured personnel are being treated at Civil Hospital and Ashirwad Hospital in Mauganj. Superintendent of Police (SP) Rewa, Vivek Kumar, confirmed that the situation is now “under control” and that a heavy police presence has been deployed to prevent further unrest.
“The police had gone to intervene in a dispute where some individuals were held hostage. During the incident, stones were pelted, leading to casualties. One police officer and a civilian lost their lives, while several other police personnel sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment. The area is now secure with a strong police presence,” SP Vivek Kumar stated.
